Inside No. 9, Season 3, Episode #28: Questionable dogma
The struggle to find peace in all its forms is rife and we’re only a few months into another turbulent orbit. The selection of nine songs for this month’s show are saferooms carved out of sound; affording me, and hopefully you dear listener, the luxury of respite. I have been using this selection of nine songs to aid me in reading and fasting.
In 2024 I have found solace in books, ploughing through dozens of the bastards, filling my brain with facts and fictions, blocking out the impossible sun that is the harrowing vista of this awful decade. As I reflect and contemplate the impossible motions of activism against mass apathy I find hope in flickers of light through the words and actions of others; those braver and stronger than I.
With hope both appearing and disappearing in some skewed quantum state I suggest plugging in and listening to this selection of nine exquisite pieces that defy categorization and exist in their own perfect/imperfect worlds. My mind is soothed and my ears balmed by the fragile, caustic and powerful noises that flicker dimly through the 101 minutes running time. This is the antithesis to Orwell’s Room 101, a place for contemplation and respite amongst the torture and brainwashing of the 21st century media landscape.
