I’ve been away from my new home for the duration of February visiting the old country to see family and friends. I had been looking forward to this visit for a while, as it coincided with my birthday and afforded me the opportunity to connect with people I hadn’t seen for many months. The rain set in for the duration. I haven’t seen a blue sky for weeks and on top of this I have been in the depths of a deep depression so all in all, not the most successful trip. However, there have been moments of light in the darkest of times, and I have been afforded some much needed human contact and moments of joy through art, music and literature.
With two huge fog shrouded releases dropping recently courtesy of KMRU and the reissue of the mighty Disintegration Loops, it seemed only right to fill 75 mins with blissful tones of shapeshifting sonic steam. During my recent travels I have found myself on many long train journeys, with little to look at other than rain on scuffed glass. This mix has soundtracked my journeys as I devoured lots of brilliant books, including works from Annie Erneaux, Janet Frame, Samuel Becket and Gregor Hens. The act of reading in motion on a train, locked in with headphones and long droning music, is one of my few happy places.
With the relentless raging discord of news, caustic public opinion, and a world seemingly imploding into diatribe, madness and hate, it could seem cowardly to find myself smothered in the safety of music and literature; but fuck that, I have my own survival to consider. With that caveat I hope that this month’s episode can bring you a welcome salve in such rash times.
This episode concludes with my most listened to records of the last three months, in the shape of Klaus Wiese’s Uranus. I hope you spend as much time with Uranus as I have with mine.
