Louis Carnell’s 111 series has already taken us on a memorable journey, but it’s barely a third of the way toward the destination. Made up of 15 stellar collaborations, Carnell is slowly revealing each sonorous gem across the span of months, slowly sharpening the project’s impact. On the latest, “six,” he joins forces with Kenyan sound artist KMRU. Repeating tones hang on metallic hooks rotating in the background, an acute beacon with razor edges. Glassine drone walls expand with a frosty glow across the spatial plane. We sink lower into the icy sonic flow, pulled ahead by warm bass synths and patterned melodies. It’s a hypnotizing, beautiful place.
111 is available via Bandcamp or wherever you stream music, and “six” will be officially released tomorrow, December 19. Listen and watch the mesmerizing video from Carnell and Arcin Sagdic below.
