Antwerp-based composer Miaux’s new album, Never Coming Back, creates a sense of distance from a place that once held us back. Synth arrangements pull inward before spiraling into the distant skies. “In the closing track ‘I have no desire for the close company of other people,’ hope and redemption seem to guide towards another world,” Miaux explains. Asymmetric sonic remnants tiptoe through midnight spaces, melodic yet reserved. Eventually, the dam breaks, and distant neon sequences welcome us with open arms. The new world is brighter and the song continues dancing into the ether.
