Viktor Kubal’s 1981 animated film, The Bloody Lady, is full of whimsy and horror that are mined for interest and tension. Unsurprisingly, it is fertile ground for claire rousay’s alternate score. “VIII” swims in melancholy with emotive piano melodies pockmarking a droning underscore like acid raindrops through limestone. String arrangements waver into growing dissonant charms set against an anxious glimmer. The cadence rises as our hearts begin to race. All the resonance dissipates beneath low-end spells leaving that winding, reflective melody to draw us deeper into the woods.
The Bloody Lady will be released on November 8 by VIERNULVIER Records. Stream below and pre-order HERE.
