Video Premiere: Graphics “Triskaidekaphobe”

Slogging through concrete swamps lined with gilded brass howls, Chicago’s Graphics find a new way into the slipstream. The quartet of James DB (No Men, Alouette), Luc Mosley (Mucca Pazza, Luc Mosley Ensemble, Angel Bat Dawid, Big Syn), Crawford Philleo (Brett Koontz & Truancy Club, Mia Joy, Vitamins), and Jeff Wheeler (Inclusions, Lionshead) calculate the sharpest angles between two riffs, spilling lithe saxophone melodies across snarling guitars. Rhythms pound away at barriers, building cadences that carve out the ground. Wheeler and Mosley weave an intricate dance into kaleidoscopic sonic narratives that are simultaneously grimy and effervescent. It’s all reflected in Nick Rohr’s stellar animated video (an official selection of both the 2024 Paris and Tokyo Lift-Off Film Festivals). Scenes unfold with blood-splattered violence and banality before melting into heartfelt surreality. It’s all such a weird, good time.

Graphics new album, The Great Unconfusing, will be released by Lurker Bias on November 16. Pre-order HERE.
