Foxy Digitalis Mix Season 5, #3: Julien Demoulin

Julien Demoulin’s A Trial of Distances forgoes conventional tonal palettes in favor of an expansive, immersive soundscape. Extended chord progressions stretch into the evening dusk, while melodies drift through melancholic passages. Demoulin’s use of brass—trumpet, trombone, and flugelhorn performed by Kelly O’Donahue—adds unexpected warmth, layering spectral interactions that invite deep reflection. It’s music where the past folds into the present, enveloping the senses in stillness and uncovering wonder in the familiar.

The album also features a trio of stellar remixes from HTDC, .foundation, and a 30-minute masterclass from zaké. For this mix, Demoulin curates a selection of experimental works featuring brass instruments, further expanding the sonic framework in which A Trial of Distances exists.

A Trial of Distances is out now on sound in silence.
