Video Premiere: Aki Onda “Liminal Space”

Ken Jacobs’ hand-painted slides twist counterclockwise through his Nervous Magic Lantern apparatus, hypnotic geometries pulsing against Aki Onda’s searing electronic fields. The visuals blur and bend time while Onda’s droning sonics, woven from decades of cassette field recordings and street conversations, provide rhythmic counterbalance to the flicker. What emerges is neither documentation nor pure abstraction but something more suspended: phantom faces materializing from inkblot spirals, the impossible made manifest where memory and hallucination converge in floating, holographic depth.

In the Depth of Illusion: A Soundtrack for Nervous Magic Lantern is OUT NOW on Room 40. Listen/order HERE.
