Joseph Kamaru makes unconventionally beautiful music. The two tracks on ftpim move slow but bathe you in a cold, unyielding sheen of sound. Something KMRU does well is blur the line between his sound and the environment. His music falls off the page and ingrains itself into the outside world, filling cracks and disappearing into dark corners. It’s kind of unreal, honestly. “Figures Emerge” sings in a sanguine way, unfolding slowly to remember the good times long past. Shadows, unseen figures, and loved ones just out of view haunt the unyielding “From the People I Met,” the heavier opposition to “Figures.” Paired together, this half hour shows so much of what makes KMRU great as it subtly infects the recesses of your mind. Fantastic.
