Video Premiere: Baldi/Gerycz Duo “Hairstreak”

Few instrument combos do it for me as much as drums and saxophone. Something about the tonal clash and raucous energy that often infuses these duos hits me right in the sweet spot. Cloud Nothings’ Dylan Baldi and Jayson Gerycz lay down a stream of fire on “Hairstreak,” the first taste from their new album Roadsided and Double Toothed.

From the first second, Baldi and Gerycz are screaming at 100 mph. Gerycz is a machine, laying down an absolute blitzkrieg as if he has 20 arms. Where “Hairstreak” solidifies is in the dichotomies that emerge. Gerycz just goes, but Baldi dials back the demons, and the chasm between the two opens strange, fantastical pathways. Sure, they’re both breathing fire for the entire three-minute ride, but it’s the different shades of burn that really light it up. Incredible.

Roadside and Doubled Toothed is out November 19. Pre-order below.
