Video Premiere: Sote “I’m Trying But I Can’t Reach You Father”

A determined intensity saturates Sote’s new album, Majestic Noise Made in Beautiful Rotten Iran. Scathing melodies are pushed through a particle accelerator to form new temperaments and glaze existing scales in a plating of molten chrome. Sote never rests. As a composer, he is constantly deconstructing his ideas and reconfiguring them in new, sometimes unimaginable ways. It’s why he’s one of my favorite artists as each new offering is going to be full of surprises.

In the lightspeed bounce of “I’m Trying But I Can’t Reach You Father,” an intense desire to be found takes root. Animators Shamayel and Behsarts tap into this feeling in the incredible video for the track. A lone, black-suited figure walks headfirst into the growing storm, determined to face the spiraling void head-on. As Sote ratchets up the ferocity, otherworldly forces descend into the chaos sending us into an underwater chasm to float free. The way it interprets the narrative of the song is poetic.
