Subterranean space opens up in the progressive slither of Maximum Pain’s (aka the duo of Eytan Tobin and Bob McCully/Wizard Of) thumping sonic gondola ride. “Maximum” is a blaring love letter to Tobin and McCully’s appreciation of ‘Big Beat Electronica’ that never lets up. Vocal samples grab us by the ears and hook us straight on the dance floor. It’s near-impossible to listen to “Maximum” and not move. Subtle tension moves the energy forward and keeps it evolving. Rhythmic pieces fall into place before being sidelined, all awash in glowing pads and a post-rave haze.
