Brazil’s Municipal K7 label has been a new favorite in 2022. The label, in operation since 2020, only came across my radar this summer due to Fantasma do Cerrado’s incredible Mapeamento de Terras a Noroeste de São Paulo de Piratininga. Further explorations revealed a label with a unique, discernible approach that hasn’t missed. I reached out to Rafael Stan Molina, who co-runs the label with Mario Cascardo and Lucas Stamford, and asked if they’d put together a mix of Brazilian music. All my expectations were succeeded, and I’ve been following rabbit holes for days.
From Rafael:
What we tried to put together in this mixtape, apart from simply having fun with our own musical preferences (me, Mario, and Lucas), is a vastly varied selection of music from Brazil, in an unlikely mixture ranging from different eras and styles, but retaining a certain feeling of musical adventure, showcasing undisputable giants side by side with some new Brazilian experimentalists.
