Video Premiere: Sam Gas Can “Gleep Glorp”

Peter Mack’s shapeshifting animations make the childlike whimsy on Sam Gas Can’s “Gleep Glorp” feel oddly psychedelic. A lilting melody that’s woozy and rough around the edges will do it for me every time, but an uneasiness lurks at the periphery. Gas Can tiptoes through magnetic hedges, peeking around each corner hoping to find a golden egg, but there are no prizes here. The video continues its stomp toward skyward freedom, with thumbs becoming faces and those faces wagging their tongues for a taste of sweet vehicular power. It’s a complete trip that could only end up in the clouds.

“Gleep Glorp” appears on Sam Gas Can’s recent album, II, out now on Crash Symbols.
