Violence and destruction are the heartbeats of Andrey Guryanov’s haunting “2022.” Guryanov’s new album, Anthems, explores the history of Soviet national anthems, finally landing on “2022.” The track is built from explosions in Ukraine, pulled from YouTube videos, and assembled into a bleak, forward lurch into darkness. Sirens wail in the distance, stalking the rhythmic death march and reminding of the limitless horrors unfolding in the region. Dasha Zvezdin’s video adds to the destructive specter, amplifying the piece’s tense gravity.
Anthems will be released on May 25 by Abstand. Pre-order HERE.
