Nora Stanley’s opening, wistful saxophone run clears the smoke lingering in the sonic foothills of “Hawk Hill.” Chord progressions stretch slowly inward, pulling away from the margins and bringing this thoughtful piece into focus. Situated safely in the hollows, the ephemeral melodies flicker above Benny Bock’s foundational keyboard playing as the emotive trailings buoy the piece’s heartbeat. Stanley and Bock move in parallel at opposite sides, finding their way to a central connection.
“Hawk Hill” is on Distance of the Moon, the duo’s debut album, which will be released by Colorfield Records on June 9. Stream below and pre-order HERE.
