Cutting a sharp, neon visage against a crumbling wall, Morgan Garrett emerges from a mess of wires. “Suck” coalesces acute-angled sonic shards into a hollow ghost story. Woozy acoustic strums give way to clattering rhythms and electronic discord, a cataclysm of internalized horror. The stop-start cadence of “Suck” adds to the tension and dissonance, Garrett’s voice fracturing as the world comes apart. Mas Guerrero dissects the underlying tonic character to bleed out a matrix of disembodied imagery and visual debris. Everything feels off in ways we can’t ignore, in ways we want to figure out so we can be included. Once it falls apart, we scatter to the wind.
Morgan Garrett’s new album, Purity, will be released on May 17 by Orange Milk. Pre-order HERE.
