Track Premiere: mHz (Loscil) “Brass”

For Material Prosody, the latest from Mo H. Zareei aka mHz and Room 40, he invited a handful of artists to compose pieces using his sound sculpture of the same name. Material Prosody (the sculpture) is “a custom-designed 8-step electromechanical sequencer aimed at emphasizing the physical materiality of sound and sound production.” On “Brass,” Loscil uses subtle rhythmic movements and textures to heighten the tangible dread building within its synthetic hollows. Each pulsing echo adds to the tension as though “Brass” is holding back an ocean trying to escape through metallic walls. Clicking patterns mix with fuzz, the sounds of machines at work, the rhythm of forward motion growing. “Brass” finally takes a breath.

Material Prosody will be released on October 7 via Room 40. It features contributions from mHz, Nicolas Bernier, Matmos, Zimoun, and Alba Triana in addition to Loscil. Stream below and pre-order HERE.
