Track Premiere: Black Rain “Tokyo Night City”
With William Gibson’s Neuromancer celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, Room 40 is releasing the first proper edition of Black Rain’s soundtrack for the audiobook version from 30 years ago. These recordings are legendary in certain circles but have remained largely unavailable until now. The duo captures the intricacies in the grit and texture of the text, fusing thick sonic atmospheres with gossamer resonance. Drones glean timbral shapes from broken light, fully grounded even while reaching for the midnight sky. Within spacious echoes, darkness grows around disembodied voices from a hollow, electronic core. Black Rain captures the spirit of Neuromancer, the combination of mystery and anxiety; of hopefulness cut by unease.
Neuromancer has been fully remastered and recontextualized from the original tapes by Lawrence English in collaboration with Black Rain’s Stuart Argabright. It will be released on vinyl and digital editions via Room 40 on November 8. Stream below and pre-order HERE. Essential!
