Track Premiere: Martin Tétreault & Érick d’Orion “Matines”

There are a dizzying number of layers to “Matines,” the opening track from musique actuelle vets Martin Tétreault & Érick d’Orion’s new album, Cisterciennes. Textured repetitions grind through hypnotic, disassembled drones and gliding harmonics. The mix of turntablism and electronics is satisfying. Tétreault & d’Orion create a unique sonic language to twist varying tonal components into a living, breathing whole. The gradual build-up is subtle, leaving this dense, complicated music feeling airy and approachable. Fleeting melodic shards break into granular spectacles, small moments of considerable spirit. “Matines” is an invitation, sometimes whimsical and other times heady, to immerse ourselves in Tétreault and d’Orion’s world.

Cisterciennes will be released on October 22 by No Type—stream below and pre-order HERE.
