Asher tells stories through sound, and on his latest release, Untitled Fictions, this narrative impulse is more vivid than ever. Interwoven soundworlds unfold into fluid, expressive forms, shaping emotive landscapes with searing oscillations, dub-inflected shadows, and melodic reflections.
“The idea of sound recordings as fiction, as imaginary landscape art—an invention—has been central to my work for many years,” Asher explains. “In this way, the compositions on this album are like sketches from a travelogue, reports from elsewhere.”
Distorted tones emerge from obscured darkness into a clear-eyed forward path, the music evolving into textured realizations of beginnings and endings. Asher layers subtle chord progressions with rising, sharp frequencies, sparking imagination and transforming the last vestiges of hope into something tangible and immutable. Untitled Fictions promises so much.
Untitled Fictions will be released by Room 40 on May 2. Pre-order HERE.
