“Fluorescent Echo” drifts in slow gradients, pairing dissolving color fields with a soundworld built from memory’s debris. The video undergoes subtle tonal shifts as if light itself were trying to recall something half-forgotten. Matthew Mercer’s composition unfolds quietly, shaped by tape hiss, faint melodic gestures, and the ghostly outline of lost improvisations. There’s a tenderness in how the piece holds stillness without settling, how it suggests form while refusing to arrive fully. Like the rest of lightdark, it lingers at the threshold—between presence and disappearance, signal and silence, the trace and what no longer remains.
lightdark will be released by Dragon’s Eye Recordings on July 20. Pre-order HERE.
