The title track features Greg Kelley and is like a sonic rise. Trumpet layers effervesce, a blooming catharsis welcoming us into the world of Pendulum. It’s an emotional hammer blow that’s so, so moving. Giffoni ties everything together with a searing precision. On “Beam,” featuring the inimitable Zola Jesus, light becomes pure, aural radiation. Arpeggios blur into illuminated ghosts as Nika’s voice becomes the charge that gleans sound from the glow. Giffoni sharpens electronic oscillations into razor’s edges, eventually carving angled pathways into something darker, something further, but the vocals remain a beacon pulling us ahead.
