Foxy Digitalis Mix #31: William Fowler Collins

William Fowler Collins and I go way back. We were once labelmates on the legendary Type label and Collins did a memorable, dense tape for my old label, Digitalis. His last album, Field Music, was released on SIGE in 2018. Collins makes heavy music. It’s not just the sonic elements that weigh a ton, but there’s an emotional heft to his work that I have long connected with. His 5th solo album, Hallucinating Loss, will be released on vinyl sometime in 2022. co-released by his label, Western Noir, and Raven Chacon’s Sicksicksick label. It features Johanna Hedva, Maria Valentina Chirico, Jeremy Barnes and Heather Trost (A Hawk and a Hacksaw), and Aaron Martin.

This mix connects to the themes present in Hallucinating Loss: loss, love, grief, fear, rebirth. Love songs for autumn, in a way. As the temperatures drop and the leaves turn, it’s been hitting the spot.
