Frayed imagery and blurred tones swirl into symbiotic shapes in the opening breaths of “Spectral Flux.” Immediately, we’re immersed in this gauzy soundworld, floating in grayscale ephemera, untethered from everything. Chris Herbert and Elias Merino tread into the black water, cutting sounds of rain with hollowed-out drone stretches that feign at a prismatic sparseness, but spread deeper as the piece moves ahead. Subtle shifts hold us in a state of stillness, focused on the textural movements and lost in the withering tide.
