Dragon’s Eye Recordings continues pushing boundaries and finding new ways to connect audiences with the sonic reverie they release. With Coming Up Like A Flower, the label kicks off a new series of annual mixtapes curated by one of its artists to present unreleased music from the label’s roster. For this inaugural release, vessitt uses sound to build connection and zero in on collaboration and community building. “This mixtape is the result of chance encounters, false starts, faith in strangers, mysteries around every corner, and the unseen diligence and hard work of a small community to accomplish something cohesive without any intention of doing so,” he explains.
Victoria Wijeratne’s “A Good Place” is a warm embrace with haunting margins, its gravity heightened by Kadeem Speaks Jeudy’s voice memo. Piano notes blur into hazy expressions where memories are cast in glass, still and immovable. Chord progressions mingle with the words like untangling strings spelling out secret messages in sound. Helen Kilbride‘s video intensifies the ageless feeling in the aural atmosphere with Super 8 footage that invokes familiarity tinged with regret. Together, the visuals, music, and words create an unforgettable moment.
