There are so many aspects of corners that make it a singular, special entry in Catherine Sikora’s stellar discography. I talked to Sikora about the concept and experience of creating these pieces in this interview, but to quote from the release notes: corners was recorded in the Brooklyn Navy Yard on a beautiful Sunday in May 2021, as part […]
Imagine a crystal sphere cracking apart, not with hard sharp edges, but with soft lines that are cool to the touch. Chie Otomi’s work is alive in the details, but whenever we pull back and take in albums like Touch Again as a whole, the real magic begins to sing. Otomi has become one of my favorite […]

Saint Abdullah is the Tehran-born duo of brothers Mohammad and Mehdi and over the last few years, they have built a formidable discography. Rich details highlight their lithe focus, but the biggest takeaway from this breathtaking performance of pieces from two different Lithuanian composers is the deep understanding the duo […]
I am always so taken with the ferocity and agility with which Laura Cocks plays the flute. Their new album, field anatomies, explores the degree to which a body can be pushed and what exists in the space beyond our limitations. Cocks’ music exists in simultaneous spheres of deep, investigative realities and an effervescent glow of […]
I’ve been wanting to make some kind of mix for the site for a while after having such a blast collaborating on the Halloween and Xmas mixes, so starting the year off with some Charlatan action on Foxy Digitalis feels right. After numerous stops and starts, I finally settled on a mix of one instrument/solo […]
I’ve been transparent in my adoration for Wet Tuna’s Eau’d To a Fake Bookie series, so the first two volumes getting a proper reissue treatment is a beautiful thing. The duo of Matt Valentine and Pat Gubler (aka PG Six) know how to get lost in strange places, knowing that finding the good times within the journey is always […]
