I’m going to keep this short and sweet. Mephisto Halabi’s The Arabic Room continues to keep me fried and overjoyed. It’s one of my favorite albums of the year and rewards listeners who dig into its every crevice. I can’t get enough. When I asked Julius Masri (the brains behind all of it) to splice […]
The world is spinning into a new dimension as soon as Al Doum and the Faryds unleash the opening riffs of “One With Nature.” Following up last year’s stellar Spirit Rejoin, the open ensemble dial up the exoticism to throw down an ecstatic gauntlet of spiraling psychedelia. Freaky People moves the island even closer to the sun with […]
An old, buried energy is awoken on Detroit saxophonist and composer Kaleigh Wilder’s cathartic Placemaking from the moment opener “Invocation of the Ancestors” rains in. Working with percussionist Everett Reid across this collection of seven pieces (eight including the alternate take of “These Tears I Cry), Wilder explores the spaces within and finds new ways of building […]
Foxy Digitalis depends on our awesome readers to keep things rolling. Pledge your support today via our Patreon. Joseph Allred is an absurdly talented artist, but it’s the spirit stitched throughout their work that puts it in its own, singular place. Past Inside the Present has offered up several beguiling collaborative albums this year and Color of Time stands right there with the best of them. This duo of Nick Turner (aka Tyresta) and Kévin Séry (aka From Overseas) ride an underwater current deep into hidden worlds on the ocean floor. Life moves in circles on Color […]

Davachi and McCann are masters of restraint in their solo practice, but with their combined prowess on Mother of Pearl, anticipation, and contemplation become an art form. Hushed whispers shuffle through the room, moving quietly to avoid the […]
Haze dissipates into the sonic forests of the first single from Solilians new EP, In the Running 2: Solilians – American Klezmische, “Old Schmeckled Hen.” The quartet is on the move as percussion grinds through hardened soil as the track opens, giving way to the softer edge of banjo clang and feathery vocal layers. Psychedelic tone […]
When I reviewed the excellent Central Isteric PASS/PORT album (on czaszka (rec.)) earlier this year, I mentioned that I didn’t have much of a grasp on Romanian experimental music. After publishing the review, Gili Mocanu (the brains behind Central Isteric) and I struck up a conversation on Twitter about what’s going on in his home country. He […]
When I was a child I used to sit in the bath and swirl the water around as fast as I could for as long as my arms would allow, trying to create a whirlpool to a new world. I’ve watched my daughter do the same thing, though less so in recent years, but I […]
