Video Premiere: Haco “Frozen in Time”

“Frozen in Time” from Haco‘s excellent new album for Someone Good, Nova Naturo is a mini masterpiece or spectral and aural delights. Held tenderly inside looping piano chords that hold onto golden moments, keeping them aloft. Haco’s voice traces the lines on your palm as the beat pushes forward and live drums pick up the pace, the nervous laughter of new love paired with the … Continue reading Video Premiere: Haco “Frozen in Time”

Weekly Video Break – April 9

Welcome to the weekly video recap. Well, I hope it’ll be weekly, but if not it will be close. This week there’s three fantastic videos from loscil, Rosali, and Sarah Louise. Dig in. A new record from loscil, called Clara, will be out May 28th. It’s a stunning album. This video is for the first song on the album and should get the hairs on the back of your … Continue reading Weekly Video Break – April 9

Weekly Video Break – March 26

Welcome to the weekly video recap. Well, I hope it’ll be weekly, but if not it will be close. This week there’s sweet videos from alexalone and Bastian Void. I’m a little obsessed with this video of alexalone from last September. Recording in a quarry near their home, this piece of music is beautiful and manages to evolve and move along with the darkening of the skies. … Continue reading Weekly Video Break – March 26

Video Premiere: Stefan Christensen “Loimaa IX”

Today, Garden Portal releases their killer spring batch and I highly recommend jumping over to their page and picking those up if you haven’t already. All four releases are worth your time.  To end this 4-week run (which has been great and I would love to do this kind of thing more so labels/artists – holler at me), we get Kristina Ohstrom’s latest beauty (follow their Instagram, too!). They tap … Continue reading Video Premiere: Stefan Christensen “Loimaa IX”

Video Premiere: Jeffrey Alexander “Perpetual Sunrise”

Penultimate Garden Portal premiere today, this time from the inimitable Jeffrey Alexander. “Perpetual Sunrise” is my favorite song off Alexander’s new tape, Reyes, as it drifts into radiant zones of plucked guitar and astral drones. Peaceful feelings permeate the tune as it gently drifts along, a languid float in the lake, eyes closed as you hear birds circle overhead. It’s beautiful. I’m always so impressed … Continue reading Video Premiere: Jeffrey Alexander “Perpetual Sunrise”

Video Premiere: Wendy Eisenberg “a line”

Week #2 (of 4!) on the Garden Portal premiere front brings us another wonderful video from Katrina Ohstrom (also check their Instagram), this time of Wendy Eisenberg’s “a line” from Cellini’s Halo. Eisenberg left their mark on my 2020 with the utterly enchanting, brilliant Auto, but “a line” (and Cellini’s Halo generally) is on a different planet. Their guitar playing zigzags like a lost insect climbing every branch and scouring every crevice, trying to remember where … Continue reading Video Premiere: Wendy Eisenberg “a line”

Weekly Video Break – March 12

Welcome to the weekly video recap. Well, I hope it’ll be weekly, but if not it will be close. This week there’s unreal live footage of Karen Dalton and a killer video from the new Black Twig Pickers. 14 minutes of Karen Dalton live (h/t to Greg Davis for sharing!) and well… be prepared to cry. Just incredible! Black Twig Pickers – “Sheets of Rain, Streams of Sun”New Black … Continue reading Weekly Video Break – March 12

Video Premiere: Peter Kris “The Role of the Kachina”

Garden Portal launches a new tape batch into the garden on March 26th and every Friday leading up to it, we’re going to premiere a video from each release. Very stoked. Up first is Peter Kris whose No Language For The Feeling double cassette + photo zine is an absolute peach. Kris made a lasting impression on me with last year’s Everything Possuelo Brought To The Table, and based on “The … Continue reading Video Premiere: Peter Kris “The Role of the Kachina”
