The Capsule Garden
How in the world is it already November? That seems fake to me. I don’t believe it. Alas, another BC Friday is upon us. The Jewel Garden has been busy. I released the first-ever Wet Bear full-length a couple of weeks ago – A Cabinet of Golden Errors. It’s strange and fun and a little […]

It’s been nearly 20 years since I was introduced to Buck Curran’s music (in the form of Arborea). His unique playing style and approach to improvisation have always made his work occupy a specific place in my mind. On his new album, Illuminations, those methods are paired with the work of my favorite poet, Arthur […]
Songs of Our Lives
On this episode of Songs of Our Lives, it’s Tom Carter!! I’ve been listening to Tom’s music for at least three decades at this point, and I still get super excited when he’s got something new cooking. His recent project, Chrome Chasm (with Mlie Marie and Will Adams) is one of those! We talk about […]

Some things take longer than expected, but it often makes the payoff sweeter. Ziemba’s new album, The Braid, took over five years to write and record, but it lands with a sharp impact. Languid songscapes harness power in pulling listeners close, the songs striking like a biting whisper. These stories are deeply personal and ageless […]

The Capsule Garden now moves to Wednesdays (I swear this is the last change). It’s been quite a week with the launch of Foxy Digitalis Daily (I hope you’ll check it out!) and with Wednesday’s episodes of the podcast being exclusive to the Foxy Digitalis Patreon (it’s a great day to sign up to hear the show […]
As always, Wednesday episodes are exclusively on Patreon, making today and excellent day to sign up and support the cause! The Daily will be back on the main feed tomorrow, but until then, there’s plenty more to explore on the site. Album of the Day: T. Jervell “Undergangen (Håp)” Additional Links: Kawabata’s Bandcamp Foxy Digitalis depends […]
French-Canadian composer (currently based in the Netherlands) Carmen Jaci creates a frenetic sound world built on joyful melodies, intricate productions, and a sense of humor. I’ve been listening to “Danse lunaire” for weeks, and it keeps revealing new secrets. Jaci’s voice is the marker, peppered throughout as a guidepost through the constantly-moving sonic maze. Miniscule […]
Pristine soundforms turn into warm, enticing atmospheres on Brett Naucke’s latest, Cast a Double Shadow. His music has a certain precision, as though the synthetic layers are a multilevel, unfathomable machine moving like clockwork through the shifting cosmos. The music in “A Glass Touch” is heightened by the video’s slow movements and cool color palette. Melodic […]
Lunar Corp’s Dandyano Zentveldt creates a lush and inviting world on his debut album, Tourism. Beyond the effervescent, gentle atmospheres, Zentveldt’s knack for wistful, memorable melodies stands out. Vaporous arrangements drift beneath us as we’re transported from world to world in a cloud of musical spells. The spine of Tourism, though, is the emotional depth and intentions […]
Tuesday is objectively the worst day, but some cool new stuff from Relative Pitch and an incredible Clarice Lispector interview are helping. Thanks, as ever, for the enthusiasm and support of Foxy Digitalis. Album of the Day: Deathprod “Compositions” Additional Links: Relative Pitch Templo Animal New Yorker Interview With Clarice Lispector Foxy Digitalis depends on our […]
Night blossoms into a kaleidoscopic dance of flames in the hypnotic opening moments of Meg Mulhearn’s “Balance Wheel.” Plucked strings shuffle, echoing through dark patterns as an invitation to explore these beckoning, resonant spaces. It’s music that looks inward with protective intentions, bringing fraught and broken mantras into a fragile balance, with Mulhearn’s voice rising […]
The first (public) episode of the Foxy Digitalis Daily features the first great album of 2023 that I’ve heard, Wheatie Mattiasich’s Old Glow. Each weekday will feature an album of the day and some music-ish news (and probably random ramblings, sorry), with Wednesday’s episode exclusive to the Foxy Digitalis Patreon. Otherwise, this podcast is available on all […]

Sometimes a small moment will leave the darkest mark. With landtitles, those snippets get etched into my brain. Two recent releases, complete jazz box set on Home Normal and geographic beings, phosphorous mountains on Whitelabrecs, build intricate, fluid realms from these tiny sonic slivers. Old machines glean melodic detritus from the magic hour on the […]

I first knew Brandon Locher as a visual artist, constantly floored by his drawings and the depth and detail he created with colored pencils. I don’t remember how we first connected, but earlier this year I was excited to take part in his Ongoing Solos project. When he shared his album, Rahu Ketu, over the […]

I love the Allotment Tapes. Perhaps that’s a bit simple, but Ben McElroy’s ongoing project to document, collaborate with, and share the world of St. Ann’s allotments in Nottingham is a small slice of magic. This is quietly important work. The size and maze-like quality to St. Ann’s are like a kind of score, each […]
