The sun is always ready to sing with Joseph Allred. Few artists imbue their music with such glowing elegance and enchantment, and on the instrumental wake of The Rambles and Rags of Shiloh, the light is palpable. Shiloh is a town in the Upper Cumberland in Tennessee, a place where Allred’s ancestors have inhabited and haunted […]
Just because the light pours in when we pull the curtains back doesn’t mean anything changes. Dead Gowns’, the project of songwriter Geneviève Beaudoin, “Renter Not A Buyer,” is flush with a visceral absurdity that highlights the surrealistic farce of keeping our heads above water in a world hellbent on breaking us down. There’s magic […]
Every time I listen to Dividers, I get lost in an ever-shifting haze. The lens continues to widen as the project evolves as a solo endeavor from Sam Miller, dipping toes into cosmic fried country and liminal Americana. The music scratches at the edges of familiarity but is doused in such a heady spectral bath […]
In the opening moments of Between All Things, soft plucks, and ethereal voices are a welcoming shimmer into this enchanting, all-consuming sonic landscape. OHMA, the duo of Hailey Niswanger and Mia Garcia, uses a warm, organic palette to create music that is simultaneously otherworldly and of this world. Familiar tones swirl into life, anchored by Garcia’s […]
I love that this piece is called “Clouds Over Sintra” because, sonically, it’s crystal clear. Deniz Cuylan spins hypnotic waves through his exquisite guitar technique and compositional acumen. Repeating patterns shift slightly in the billowing Mediterranean air with reflective and inquisitive tones, building their own language. This is intimate, almost hidden music but swims with […]
Kicking back into a higher gear after a slow(er) August, it’s been a busy week. So much good music has come across my plate that it’s been hard to narrow down what to write about (I wish I had a couple clones of myself!), but everything on this list is well worth your time. And […]
The 11th Hour is a podcast where two dudes in their 40s discuss a different Rancid song each week. They reflect on their lives, their (inexplicable) fandom, and why certain parts of our youth continue to hold meaning beyond simple nostalgia. Is it a midlife crisis or honest self-reflection? Join us on a journey to the […]
Tension shimmers like a silver thread on Starlight Assembly’s magical ‘Violent Needs’ remix of Location Services & Derek Hunter Wilson’s “Delicate Need.” Ethereal drama from the original melts into the shadows. Matteo Uggeri holds the spirit of the original while imbuing it with a newfound sense of cinematic spectacle to become a playground for Dominic […]
I have used a lot of superlatives when talking about Brown Calvin and his incredible d i m e n s i o n // p e r s p e c t i v e album (and I could probably use more – it’s just that good), but I need to turn my attention to this peach of […]
