Sunlight becomes a living, breathing instrument on the title track of From Overseas and City of Dawn’s beautiful collaboration, Misty Memories. Both projects have carved out their own spaces in the wash of melodic ambient music, but together a new dawn breaks. “Misty Memories” is full of ethereal landscapes moving within a saturated haze. Expressive, poignant […]

The spontaneity and joy woven into the foundation of OHMA’s debut album, Between All Things, is infectious. Serendipity may have played a part in Hailey Niswanger and Mia Garcia meeting, but their sonic chemistry is unique. Built […]
Eryk Salvaggio’s upcoming album, Worlding: Sympoietic Mycology, is a trip. Described as a collaboration between human, synthesizer, and mushroom, Worlding sings in its own language. From pop-infused expressions to alien glitchworlds, it’s an album filled with new, interesting ideas and evolving sounds. Salvaggio has released some excellent music in recent years, but Worlding stands apart. The album will be released on October […]
When I first heard Guðmundur Steinn Gunnarsson’s “Dreki 2. Brölt,” I wasn’t sure what to think, but I found myself listening to it repeatedly. The more I read about Gunnarsson’s Landvættirnar fjórar project, my interest in this strange, fascinating story grew. I highly recommend reading the liner notes for the album HERE. “Dreki 2. Brölt” is an inquisitive […]
Yara Asmar’s collection of home recordings is another gem from Hive Mind. Across seven tracks, the Lebanese artist shows a melancholic vulnerability. This music is like an aural diary, combining melodic, wistful motifs and an array of field recordings to create fading pictures of intimate, powerful moments. Asmar is a multi-instrumentalist living in Beirut, and […]
Listening to the latest single from Moon Mullins’ forthcoming album, Water Your Flowers, is akin to living in a time capsule. Mullins spins together a bouncy, timeless dream using an array of vintage equipment. There’s an unfettered world living its best life on “Surfboard,” cutting across synth hooks and buoyant rhythms with focused determination. The woozy, […]

I have already said this once, but it bears repeating: Odeya Nini’s voice has no limits. Whenever I listen to her debut album, ODE, my mind goes places. Focused and drifting as the music grows, it becomes […]
In a year where my love of punk-and-adjacent music has been reminded (thanks 11th Hour), nothing has left deeper marks than Upchuck’s Sense Yourself. This Atlanta quintet channels overflowing raw energy into dynamic, propulsive sonic catacombs where there’s no hiding from all the ghosts we’ve tried to bury. Vocalist and songwriter KT weaves lyrical razorblades into searing […]
Office Culture’s new album, Big Time Things, takes us over a cliff in the gentlest possible way. Even if the landing is soft, though, it still stings. It’s a pristine album, a crystalization of the band’s approach leading up to this point. Winston Cook-Wilson’s ‘Great Vocal Performances’ mix sheds a different light on the album. Big Time […]
